What is Chemical Skin Peeling?

We have hundreds of layers of skin. Our dead skin accumulates on the surface creating and ashy appearance. Have you ever been told you look tired? Well maybe you just need a really good exfoliating agent. Or maybe you need a chemical skin peel. The art of chemical skin peeling is to remove several outter layers of skin, allowing new, fresh younger looking skin to replace it. A light peel may serve just as a really good exfoliating agent. Deeper peels instigate the production of new "baby" skin.

Natural peels are derived essentially from plant sources. They're weak acids that we find naturally occurring that we find in every day products such as lactic acid (derived from milk sources), glycolic acids (found from plant sources), and enzyme peels (derived from fruit extract). There are also peels such as salicylate which can be used to treat acne and glycolic acid which can treat scars and blemishes. TCA Peels are reserved for lighter skin types and when used at the correct strength can cause a full face lift abolishing the appearance of deep wrinkles, furrows, and lines. Some forms of melasma and roascea can be treated with skin peeling.

The effects of a chemical skin peel can last from three to six months, this varies from person to person. Sun damaged skin may require more frequent peeling.

Always remember when preparing for a skin peel, do not drink alcohol, hydrate well, avoid sunlight exposure before and after peels until the skin has completely reset itself, and never try this at home by yourself.

For those of you who are curious as to how a skin peel may effect your skin or feel, use simple lemon juice or vinegar in your cabinet, as these are extremely mild acids and are safe to experiment with at home, I recommend diluting these one part lemon juice/ vinegar to two parts water, to ensure a mild experience.

Side effects of skin peeling include dehydration, scarring, skin burning effects and worsening of underlying skin conditions.

You should avoid chemical skin peeling if you have any form of cancer or unsure of the effects of chemical skin peeling. You should also avoid chemical skin peeling if you have recently been exposed to the sun or have been artificial tanning. If you are taking Accutane or any of the retinols as topical or oral therapy then you may not be eligible for a chemical skin peel due to the effects it could have on your skin. "The cold never bothered me anyway"

Recently I have taken to hot yoga. My inner self heats up in a 95F room. And it feels like a massage.. pure bliss. Then the practice of vinayasa is demanded and I self consciously become an awkward pretzel, falling short at only the more acrobatic poses such as "the wheel" and "complete inversions". Always checking the mirror and fellow class mates, pushing and overheating. By the time my teeth start sweating, I have lost the art and purpose and now am preoccupied with becoming a graceful pretzel and wiping the dollop of sweat that's tickling the side of my nose, and promptly diving back to swan pretzel without requiring a block or being noticed.

Wrong answer. Sometimes we become so competitive at even relaxing that our inner self is so worked up and overheating. We become consumed with perceptions and lose our intentions aka type A personality. It was brought to my attention lately that hot yoga is not for me. Apart from hurting my neck and not staying true to my intention, I am overheated, agitated, restless, dissatisfied and aggressive. Sheesh!

So with that in mind let me share some cooling herbs with you particularly clary sage.

The health benefits of Clary Sage Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an antidepressant, anticonvulsive, antispasmodic, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, astringent, bactericidal, carminative, deodorant, digestive, emenagogue, euphoric, hypotensive, nervine, sedative, stomachic and uterine substance. It is a cooling force. Ahhhhh!

"Summer lovin' had me a blast!"

Ah... the summer! Sun sea sand... Just see what the sea does to your skin!

The sun dehydrates and shrivels and burns beautiful face skin. It adds nasty sun spots and ages otherwise youthful beauty. The sea while salty and antiseptic, acts as a catalyst for the sun's harmful rays and allows the anger of those deep furrows and wrinkles to set in! All the while, a diet of alcohol, sugary or fried greasy boardwalk food and hearty party-ing costs years in skin damage and aging. What a blast!

Well, now that all that summer lovin' is over, call us at 1-844-4-468-968 and lets work on your diet, hydration and nutritional status and work our way out to the surface erasing the sun soiled skin for full rejuvenation. Let us help you eliminate harmful toxins and undo the erosion of sugars and carbs.

Anti-aging experts... that's what we do.. Let's live younger better!

Feeling Fall

Fall Herbs include basil, bay leaves, parsley, rosemary, sage, tarragon, and thyme…

We usually associate cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger with fall as we sip on pumpkin spice lattes and nibble on ginger cookies but basil is an excellent tasting aromatic fall herb that has powerful antioxidant properties via Vitamin A and helps us maintain adequate levels of Vitamin K. It’s great for cholesterol management, preventing atherosclerotic plaques that lead to heart attacks. Not to mention it’s great for your eyesight and our skin.

Pain relief from bay leaf! Bay leaves are a tasty seasoning but their health benefits are impressive. Who needs a cleanse when the bay leaf can detoxify your body for you, not to mention reduce inflammation and pain, improve blood sugar and wound healing, and is a strong ANTI-AGING fall herb.

Parsley is so pretty when used as a garnish to food but did you know it can help prevent osteoporosis? Yes! As well as anti-inflammatory in Rheumatoid Arthritis, lower blood sugar, prevent certain cancers, diuresis of excess water weight and strengthens the immune system.

Rosemary, what beautiful hair you have! That’s right the herb rosemary thickens hair! Best sed as an essential oil, this powerful herb can improve memory, relieve muscle aches and pains, and improves your skin!

Sage, I have talked about previously but it’s an amazing cooking herb for all you hot heads out there.

Insomnia be gone, with tarragon! Think of it like estrogen in the body increasing appetite, improving fertility and inducing sleep. It also helps pain relief and heart health.

It’s party Thyme! Thyme can improve mood, as an essential oil it has potent antimicrobial properties, can treat acne and is an excellent cough remedy. It’s rich in Vitamin C, so it is powerful anti-oxidant helping with your skin care!

That’s the fall herb laydown, happy first day of fall everyone!

… It still feels like summer!!

Summer lovin' happened so fast ...

Summer is the best time of the year to some, but you still need to take some time to protect your skin from the sun. Although you can get sunburn in the winter, the suns index is much higher in the summer which creates a high chance of getting burnt! It is so important to apply sunscreen and make sure you are reapplying! In order to protect your skin from the sun's rays you must keep applying especially after going in the water or participating in activities. Drinking water will help keep your body hydrated which also helps the skin. Your skin is an organ, we must learn to treat it as such! It needs good care just like the rest of our body. Although a summer tan may look great make sure you are keeping yourself protected.

Aloe is a great way to replenish and nurture your skin after being out in the sun. Aloe is even great on your lips, which could get sunburnt too! So make sure to apply sunscreen EVERYWHERE! Aloe contains antioxidant vitamins A, C, E, B12, folic acid and choline. These vitamins are important for proper growth and function of your body! When aloe is used on burns, it prevents UV-induced suppression so the area can heal at a faster rate.

Just a little Friday Feature ...

Sorry for not posting in a while, we have been super busy working on our office!

I want to start talking about featured products, once a week, and I think Friday is the perfect day. #FridayFeaturedProduct. Today's product is about protecting your skin because it is 62 degrees here in Montclair, NJ, and winter season, you still need to protect your skin from the sun.

Just because it is still considered winter time and the sun is further from earth, doesn't mean you don't have to worry about UVA and UVB waves from the sun! Make sure you are still applying a SPF cream to your skin. Most important is the skin that is being directly exposed to the sun, such as head (yes your scalp and ears can get sunburn), hands, arms, face, neck and chest. Today in Montclair the UV index is at a 2, which means low danger from the sun's rays but that doesn't meant to leave one of your major organs, SKIN, exposed! The first Friday Featured Product is IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream! The great thing about this product is it's affordable, gives GREAT coverage, and has 50+ SPF! It makes my skin feel super hydrated all while giving me the coverage I want and need! Another great thing about IT cosmetics is that they are cruelty free. If you are looking for other great suggestions make sure to check back every Friday. Also, we would love to hear about some of the products you're using so we can try them out, hear your opinion and give you our feedback once we've tried!
